I am a New York-based designer, Interaction designer and researcher whose practice investigates the body as a primary cognitive interface within hybrid digital-physical space. Grounded in Industrial and Product Design and drawing on a decade of research through design — spanning XR, HCI, and embodied cognition — I build systems that expose how spatial perception is encoded, translated, and acted upon by computational structures.

My projects — including Insight Realm, Echo, and I Feel Many Things During the Day — use game engines, projection mapping, sensor-based media, and real-time interaction to probe how movement, attention, emotion, and proprioception become readable data. Rather than rendering the body as a neutral input device, her work makes visible the politics embedded in how environments sense and respond to us.

I’m an Adjunct Professor at Parsons School of Design, Vice Chair of IDSA NYC Women in Design, and a researcher for the XRSI Child Safety Initiative. As Founder and Project Director of Team Echo, I have led immersive installation projects exhibited at NYC Resistor and Sojourn Gallery, recognized by ACM SIGGRAPH 2024 Art Gallery, the Red Dot Design Award shortlist and NYC Media Lab. Most recently, I was a track keynote speaker at the Royal College of Art's Immersive Act 2026, presenting within Track 3: Immersive Innovation Design — Bodies, Sensors, and New Narratives.

저는 뉴욕을 기반으로 활동하는 인터렉션 디자이너이자 연구자로, 하이브리드 디지털-물리 공간 안에서 신체를 일차적 인지 인터페이스로 탐구하는 실천을 이어가고 있습니다. 산업디자인 및 제품디자인을 토대로, XR·HCI·구현된 인지(embodied cognition)를 아우르는 10년간의 디자인 리서치 (Research through Design)을 바탕으로, 공간 지각이 어떻게 인코딩되고 번역되며 컴퓨터 구조에 의해 작동되는지를 드러내는 시스템을 구축합니다.

Insight Realm, Echo, I Feel Many Things During the Day 등의 프로젝트는 게임 엔진, 프로젝션 매핑, 센서 기반 미디어, 실시간 인터랙션을 활용해 움직임·주의·감정·고유감각(proprioception)이 어떻게 읽기 가능한 데이터로 전환되는지를 탐문합니다. 신체를 중립적인 입력 장치로 환원하는 대신, 그의 작업은 환경이 우리를 감지하고 반응하는 방식 안에 내재된 권력의 정치를 가시화하는것을 연구와 경험 디자인을 통해 만들어 냅니다.

저는 파슨스 디자인 스쿨(Parsons School of Design) 겸임교수이자 IDSA NYC 여성 디자인 분과 부의장이며, XRSI 아동 안전 이니셔티브 연구원으로 활동하고 있습니다. The Framework of Perception & Experience

Through her Perception–Emotion–Behavior cycle and Biopsychosocial Framework, Lee develops work that moves beyond representational world-building toward sensory systems that clarify the internal landscapes of the mind. Central to this practice is the concept of Perceptual Literacy — the capacity to read and navigate the cognitive structures that space imposes on the body.

Where the Practice Begins

The body was always the interface. Long before screens, before spatial computing, and before AI, human cognition was grounded in movement, sensation, and spatial experience.

Building on that foundation, I work as an interaction and experience designer who translates research into actionable, human-centered design systems. My practice focuses on how embodied selves navigate technological environments — from XR and spatial computing to HCI and AI — bridging theory, research, and real-world experiential applications.

Grounded in Industrial, Product Design, and Media Interaction Design and driven by Research through Design methodologies, I transform insights from perception, cognition, and human behavior into tangible, spatially aware experiences that are conceptually rigorous, technically informed, and practically implementable.

스크린이 등장하기 전부터, 공간 컴퓨팅과 AI 이전부터 인간의 인지는 움직임, 감각, 그리고 공간적 경험을 기반으로 형성되어 왔습니다.

나는 이러한 기반 위에서, 연구를 실제 인간 중심의 디자인 시스템과 경험으로 번역하는 인터랙션 및 경험 디자이너이너로 활동하고 있습니다. 저의 작업은 XR, 공간 컴퓨팅, HCI, AI에 이르기까지, 인간의 embodied self(체화된 자아)가 기술 환경 속에서 어떻게 경험하고 반응하며 의미를 형성하는지를 탐구하며, 이론과 연구를 현실적인 경험 설계와 실행으로 연결하는 데 집중합니다.

My practice begins where most design frameworks stop — at the body. I research, design, and build interaction and experience systems grounded in embodied and spatial cognition. This means treating the biological infrastructure of human perception — proprioception, vestibular orientation, sensorimotor feedback — not as context for design, but as its foundation. Through Research through Design, I develop architectural frameworks that connect human physiology to spatial interaction, translating invisible perceptual systems into tangible, navigable experiences across XR, spatial computing, and HCI.

At the core of this practice is a biopsychosocial approach to experience design — one that moves beyond "user-centered" to ask how biological, psychological, social, and environmental forces shape the conditions through which meaning is made. This is the framework I apply across research, prototyping, and built systems.

As an educator at Parsons School of Design and Project Director of Team Echo, I extend this framework into how designers think. I give designers and teams metacognitive tools — ways of disassembling complex, ambiguous problems and rebuilding them as coherent experience systems. The goal is not just better products. It is better conditions for human experience in an increasingly spatial and AI-mediated world.

저의 실천은 대부분의 디자인 프레임워크가 멈추는 지점, 즉 신체에서 시작됩니다. 저는 신체화된 인지와 공간 인지를 기반으로 한 인터랙션 및 경험 시스템을 연구하고, 설계하고, 구축합니다. 이는 인간 지각의 생물학적 기반 — 고유 감각, 전정 기관의 방향 감각, 감각운동 피드백 — 을 디자인의 맥락이 아닌 토대로 다루는 것을 의미합니다.

'디자인을 통한 연구'를 통해 저는 인간의 생리와 공간 인터랙션을 연결하는 구조적 프레임워크를 개발하며, 보이지 않는 지각 시스템을 XR, 공간 컴퓨팅, HCI 전반에 걸쳐 만질 수 있고 탐색 가능한 경험으로 번역합니다.

이 실천의 핵심에는 경험 디자인에 대한 생물심리사회적 접근이 있습니다 — '사용자 중심'을 넘어, 생물학적·심리학적·사회적·환경적 힘이 어떻게 의미가 만들어지는 조건을 형성하는지를 탐구합니다. 이것이 연구, 프로토타이핑, 완성된 시스템 전반에 걸쳐 제가 적용하는 프레임워크입니다.

파슨스 디자인 스쿨 교육자이자 팀 에코(Team Echo)의 프로젝트 디렉터로서, 저는 이 프레임워크를 디자이너가 사고하는 방식으로 확장합니다. 복잡하고 모호한 문제를 해체하고 이를 일관된 경험 시스템으로 재구성하는 메타인지 도구를 디자이너와 팀에게 제공합니다. 목표는 단순히 더 나은 제품이 아닙니다. 점점 더 공간적이고 AI로 매개되는 세계에서 인간 경험을 위한 더 나은 조건을 만드는 것입니다.
