The Waves
Reinterpretation of The Waves by Virginia Woolf
Conceptual projection mapping of the experimental novel
"The Waves" is a meditative projection mapping experience that explores the structure and limits of the self. This installation projects cascading waves of color to represent the fluidity and dynamism within us.
The installation begins with a silent central consciousness of the individual self and body. As the waves start to form and crest, their movement and energy are reflected in the swirling patterns of light and color across the surface of the water. The colors and patterns become more complex as the installation progresses, with intricate details and textures emerging from the surface of the water.

Psychological Metaphor
A self is a constellation of diverse personalities, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. This dynamic unit usually strives to maintain a sense of stability in who we are. However, these personalities can be involuntarily stirred up when the external world becomes challenging. Reality fragments and becomes discontinuous, and the self may struggle to perceive its surroundings objectively. The self is soon overwhelmed by multiple realities, and the waves roll and pull it under the water, ultimately leading to surrender to the environment.
The six colors of the wheels represent the different personalities of the self (which are based on characters from the book).
