#2 Embodiment Lab: Learning as experience: Binna Lee

I serve as the Epistemic Framework Lead for Embodied Cognition and Experiential Learning at PRAXIS Symposium–Lab, where I sketch and architect interdisciplinary structures that orchestrate the interplay between research, design, and embodied experience—transforming interaction into learning and knowledge production.

Mission Statement:

Praxis is an open forum that explores emerging social, critical, and educational questions in design and technology. Each month, we bring together students learners, designers, technologists, artists and educators working across these intersections to exchange insights and learn from one another.

As practitioners and teachers ourselves, we recognize the importance of creating a space where people can be transparent and vulnerable in how we learn, teach, and make. We understand embodied and experiential learning as knowledge that arises through lived, practical wisdom, technical skills and not only through abstract theories.

Our paths through institutional education have given us opportunities for intellectual dialogue and creative practice. Yet we aim to re-center the purpose of learning — to exchange knowledge, share resources, challenge one another, and grow collectively. In an era where technology, especially AI, evolves rapidly, we believe education must extend beyond tools and trends. What matters is not short-term skill acquisition, but lifelong inquiry, critical thinking, and meaningful creation. We see Praxis — the ongoing translation of theory into making — as a fertile ground and a generative feedback loop that continually shapes how we think, make, and learn together.

Vol. 2 Embodiment Lab

Speaker & Facilitator: Binna Lee.

Praxis Vol. 2 explores embodied cognition and experiential learning as learning through experience.

" Experience becomes the catalyst.
  Reflection opens the conversation.
  Learning unfolds through presence.
"

Rather than presenting conclusions, the session is designed as a shared laboratory—bringing together short conceptual framing, guided embodied exercises, reflective writing, and collective mapping. Participants begin from their own bodily and spatial learning memories to examine what has often been lost, muted, or overlooked in education, design, and technology.

The symposium introduces an evolving framework that understands learning not as the transfer of information, but as a process shaped through the body, emotion, environment, and social context. By foregrounding lived experience, Praxis creates a space where different disciplinary ways of thinking—art, design, and engineering—can encounter one another without the need to converge on a single method or outcome.

it is not a presentation format, but a condition—one in which experience becomes the starting point for inquiry, reflection, and re-positioning.
